There are two methods of modulation employed, depending on the system type.
In our TTL compatible systems, an external trigger signal is required from a user provided source.
In our crystal controlled systems, an internal crystal oscillator provides a factory preset trigger signal. Several oscillator types are available ( see Oscillator Spec. Table). The X34 option enables an external user setting of the programmable divider. These systems are fully selfcontained with drive and control electronics, laser diode and a basic single-element aspheric lens to produce a quasi-collimated beam. Thermoelectric control is available for some systems.
For some of the systems a minimum order requirement must be met. Please get in contact with us for more details.
There are mainly three different product categories of our modulated diode laser modules
- Self contained modulated diode laser systems
- Modulated systems with separated Geometry
- Modulated systems with prism/ lens correction

Self-Contained Modulated Diode Laser Systems
PMT/ PMX Laser Diode System
These systems operate in the constant drive current mode only, without feedback provision for output power regulation. The output power is factory set on customer specifacition within the range of the laser diode utilized. An optional potentiometer control is available. The PMX system is factory preset at a fixed frequency, triggered by an internal crystal oscillator/ programmable frequency divider. The X34 option allows an external stepped division change of the modulation frequency.
PPMT/ PPMX Laser Diode System
In addition these systems incorporate a Peltier thermoelectric control and fan to actively control the operating temperature of the system. This stabilizes the operating and spectral characteristics of the constant drive current mode laser. Four builtin potentiometers for adjustment of the diode current and temperature settings as well as a 7 pin connector for a DVM device for parameter monitoring are included. top of the line laser module.

Modulated Systems with separated Geometry
This configuration with a separate drive electronics from the laser head provides more flexibility in positioning the components within the design of the application. These systems operate in the constant current mode and are output power factory set as specified by the customer. An optional current control potentiometer can be available.

SPMT/ SPMX Laser Diode System
These systems are basically separate geometry versions of the PMT and PMX laser systems, however the laser head is smaller in size.

Modulated Diode Laser Systems with Circular Beam
APMT Laser Diode System
The APMT is our top of the line laser module. It incorporates beam modulation, a circularized output beam, and active temperature control. Beam modulation from CW to 20 Mhz is controlled by a TTL level signal supplied by the customer. The active temperature control built into the APMT helps to stabilize the output power and wavelength found with low end laser modules.
These systems operate in "Constant Drive Current" only. There are four potentiometers built into the system to adjust or change the drive current or the thermoelectric control parameters. Also included is a 7 pin connector for DVM (Digital Volt Meter) compatible monitoring of these system parameters.
APMX Laser Diode System
The AMPX is a variation of the APMT laser module. Beam modulation from up to 1Mhz is controlled by an internal crystal oscillator. The modulation frequency is set at the factory to the frequency selected by the customer. An option X34 allows user selection of available frequencies (frequency selection chart is supplied in our specification area). Other frequencies are available upon request.
ACMT Laser Diode System
The ACMT is designed as a digitaly modulated laser system with modulation rates up to 20 Mhz. Laser modulation can be triggered by a standard TTL signal function generator. The system operates in "Constant Drive Current" mode without feedback system to regulate the laser power. Hence, the system does not automatically correct output power fluctuations due to temperature changes. The ACMT system operates at a factory preset optical output power. Optional potentiometer controls are available for the "Constant Drive Current" mode.
ACMX Laser Diode System
The ACMX is much like the ACMT except the modulation is triggered by an internal oscillator/programmable frequency divider. This provides a fixed frequency modulation. The modulation frequency is factory preset and must be specified at ordering. The Option X34 enables the user to externally step the divider and change the modulation to several different frequencies within the capability of the crystal oscillator.
